Coon Rapids High School is located near the Mississippi River 15 miles north of Minneapolis. The city of Coon Rapids boasts 70,000 residents and is still growing. The school offers advance placement, honors, and standard courses.
The school has a preschool, run by the Anoka-Hennepin Community Education Department, that enrolls 3, 4 and 5 year olds. This program is known as the school readiness program where kids have large group activities, and different learning centers like blocks, computers, games, and art.
Coon Rapids High School has a wide variety of sports that students can get involved in like alpine skiing, hockey, gymnastics, baseball (State Champs '08), basketball, tennis , danceline, soccer, football, cross country, Nordic skiing, swimming, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, lacrosse, and cheerleading. In the fall of 2008, the Coon Rapids boys soccer became conference champs for the first time in school history.
The school sponsors many activities that students can get involved in: Cardinal image store, choir, drumline, debate, marching band, drama club, step drill team, fine art pictures, link crew, robotics team, student council, and winter colorguard. Coon Rapids High School has seen great success in various competitions since its inception.
The school offers a special education program, a student work program, peer mediation, art, student clubs, national honor society, student elective classes, and school within a school alternative program.
The music department is made up of different levels as of 2010: Cardinal choir (girls) & Cavaliers (boys) - 9th grade level, Cantabile (mixed) - 10th & up, Bel Canto (girls) - advanced 10th & up, Concert choir (mixed) - advanced 10th & up, Vision (mixed) - audition only advanced showchoir
Also known as 'Students Helping Students'. Link Crew is a program that has members of the Senior class offer help and advise to the new Bold textFreshmen. They meet with the Freshmen almost every Wednesday to answer any questions that they may have.
